This rose seemed to shine out from the dark background. Its delicate pink bloom was highlighted by a shaft of light striking it almost from the front and illuminating all the subtle nuances and colours in the flower. The petals were a challenge to paint because I wanted to capture the various tones and shadows that were so attractive to see.
