I love warm still lifes so wanted a reddish background to complement the green of the Conference Pear.  The height of the vase benefited from having the grapes hang from the top, thereby adding interest to the large expanse of white. I decided to add the glass of wine, both to continue the grape colour and to balance the composition.  I tried various positions for the pear but decided on having it lean upwards – fairly unusual.  Setting up a still life can take a long time as there are thousands of variations you can make and choosing one that you like the best can be extremely difficult.
