Three of my favourite objects to paint are included in this painting; the blue bowl, brass jug and old glazed pottery bottle. The orange of the satsumas always looks good against a dark background and I added further interest by showing one satsuma peeled and halved. The peel falling below the shelf adds a dynamic and attractive touch.
