I felt it was time that I painted some cherries again, so when I saw these in a local greengrocers my mind was made up. I chose two vessels I had not painted before: a lovely patterned metal vase and a small bright cream jug. The red of the cherries contrasted well with the vase and jug and I decided to paint a lighter background for a change. My fear was the cherries would not stand out sufficiently against one of my usual dark backgrounds.
